Fun Facts about Federal Service

  • 86% of federal employees live outside of the DC metro region
  • 45,000 entry-level hires join federal service each year
  • Federal agencies are looking to hire students from every major and interest, from business and accounting to engineering and liberal arts

When is the Summit?

The Summit immediately follows the close of the NACE  Annual Conference and Exposition to maximize time and networking opportunities with federal agencies.  Sessions will include interactive discussions, panels and presentations designed to enhance your efforts to find student opportunities in federal government.

                      Friday, June 12, 2009 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm
                      Saturday, June 13, 2009 from 9:00am to 12:00pm

Why should I attend?

You will have the opportunity to connect and share ideas with many of the 600+ universities  and the 75 federal agencies in the Call to Serve community, including the CIA, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of State. Plus, learn how to take advantage of the latest Partnership resources. The federal government will need to hire tens of thousands of people in the next year to fill mission-critical positions, with the demand for skilled workers continuing for the foreseeable future.  Many of these positions are optimal for recent graduates.  These sessions will effectively equip you to help students successfully enter federal service.

What will I be able to bring back to my university or agency?

The sessions will give you insight into the Partnership's newest resources and programs that make the process of building a public service campaign easier for schools and help agencies recruit the best students on college campuses.  You will learn best practices that you can immediately apply in your workplace and network with other professionals on campuses and in agencies.

Sessions include:

  • Student Opportunities in Federal Service
  • What's it like to work in federal government? Perspectives from the Annenberg Speakers Bureau
  • Where the Jobs Are: Hiring Trends at Federal Agencies
  • Closing the Knowledge Gap: Educating and Inspiring Today's Students
  • Building Agency/University Relationships

Who should attend?

  • College and university professionals interested in learning the latest information on federal service student programs and job opportunities
